She/Her

Specialties: Couples and relationships, children and teens, parenting and family dynamics, trauma and abuse, anxiety and depression, emotional regulation, South Asian couples and families, in-law and intergenerational pressure, autism ADHD and behavioural support.

Clients like: That I'm direct about the plan. I'll tell you what we're doing and why, and we'll practice the hard conversation out loud in session rather than hoping it goes well at home. I'm also not easily scandalized — you can tell me the part your family doesn't know. Kids like that I don't make them perform a conversation they're not ready for. Parents and partners like that they leave with something to actually try.

Modalities: Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive.

More About Me

Hi, I'm Momna.

I work with families at every point in them — the couple at the centre, the kids who are watching, and the whole system trying to function around both. Those usually aren't three separate problems. They're one problem showing up in three rooms.

With couples, the work is about what happens between you and what's pressing on you from outside. Some couples arrive with a problem strictly between the two of them, and we work on the patterns underneath it — how conflict starts, where it goes sideways, and how you find your way back to each other afterwards. Many couples arrive with a third party already in the room: in-laws, extended family, community expectations nobody in the relationship ever actually agreed to but everyone is living under. I have particular experience supporting South Asian couples navigating that, and I know "just set a boundary" is useless advice when the boundary has real consequences. So we get specific: what gets said, who says it, what happens when the pressure comes back, and how the two of you stay on the same side while it does. We'll practice it in session until it's yours.

Before I moved toward couples work, I spent more than five years with children, adolescents and families — trauma, abuse, anxiety, autism, emotional regulation and parenting support. I started out as an ABA therapist and spent five years working one-to-one with autistic children, tracking what actually helped and adjusting the plan every few sessions when the data said to. I've worked with kids and adolescents from about age five through nineteen with ADHD, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, self-esteem and school difficulties. With younger children I use play therapy, because play is how a six-year-old tells you the truth — I meet children where they can actually meet me, which is rarely a face-to-face conversation about feelings.

With families, I work with parents as much as with the child. Not to assign blame, but because your kid goes home to you, and home is where progress is made or lost. I've done a lot of this work in home-based settings, so I've seen how family life actually runs rather than how it gets described in an office.

I work from a treatment plan, not a hunch. Gottman Method for couples, IFS for the parts of you that want opposite things at the same time, CBT and Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma and the thinking that keeps it running. I'll tell you which one I'm using and what I expect it to do. If it isn't working, I'd rather change the plan than keep going out of politeness.

I also bring substantial trauma experience — a year at a rape crisis centre supporting adolescents and adults affected by sexual violence, domestic abuse and PTSD, with formal training in Cognitive Processing Therapy. Trauma work needs structure and pacing, not just warmth. With adults I work on anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and the perinatal and postpartum period, and I use Internal Family Systems when the difficulty is that parts of you want opposite things at the same time.

What I love most is hearing people's stories — how they got here, what they've been carrying, what they're trying to protect. And I am protective of relationships. If you're trying to save something, I'm on its side.
