Are You and Your Partner Feeling Disconnected?
Has the dynamic in your relationship changed?
Do you feel more like roommates than partners?
Are you having the same fight over and over?
Do you worry that you can't trust your partner?
Are you unsure if you should even stay together?
If you're lying awake at night wondering if your relationship will ever feel good again, you're not alone. A lot of Ajax couples come to us feeling stuck—caught in the same painful patterns, wondering if they'll ever feel connected again.
You might catch yourself thinking: "If I could just get them to understand..." or "If they would just stop criticizing me, everything would be fine." Small things—like dishes or wiping down the counter—turn into big fights about deeper stuff. One of you shuts down; the other tries harder to connect. The cycle just keeps repeating.
Your deepest wish? Just to be understood, supported, and loved exactly as you are.
With couples therapy, you can learn how to fight in ways that actually help your relationship—creating a space where you're free to be yourself, where you feel safe being vulnerable and asking for what you need.
Most Ajax Couples Face These Same Challenges
You're not alone in this. Research shows that poor communication is the #1 relationship problem worldwide. Money stress, disagreements about sex, parenting conflicts, feeling disconnected—these are struggles nearly every couple deals with at some point.
You're Probably the First Generation in Your Family to Do This
A lot of our Ajax clients tell us their parents never would have gone to couples therapy. You're doing relationships the best way you know how, and you're smart enough to see that what you know isn't working. You might be the first generation in your family getting this kind of help—even though your neighbors are probably coming too.
The good news? It really is possible to change these patterns and build a relationship that feels secure and happy when you're both willing to work at it. Honestly, it's easier than you think when you're working with people who specialize in helping couples.
Ajax Couples Therapy Can Help You Transform Your Relationship
At The Relationship Agency in Ajax, we specialize in helping couples move from fighting and distance to connection and joy.
We Get Your Pattern
Relationship problems follow pretty predictable patterns. Usually one person is more tuned into the emotional temperature—always wondering if they're really loved and safe. They might say things like "you never..." or "why do you always..." The other person feels like they're constantly being criticized and can never do anything right. When their partner reaches out, they pull away—which makes the anxious partner even more worried. Round and round it goes.
These patterns come from something called attachment. It's basically how you learned to do relationships when you were growing up. It affects how you see relationships now, how you show up, and how safe you feel being vulnerable.
Here's the thing: attachment isn't just in your head—it's in your body. It affects you in ways you don't even realize.
We help by working with how your body responds to stress, understanding your attachment patterns, and teaching you specific ways to talk to each other that create safety instead of more fighting.
What Couples Therapy in Ajax Looks Like With Us
What Sessions Look Like at Our Ajax Office
You and your partner talk together while your therapist acts like a coach—pointing out what's not working, showing you better ways to communicate, and helping you both actually hear each other.
You'll learn things like:
Notice when you or your partner are getting heated—and pause before things escalate
Talk about what's bothering you without blaming or attacking
Ask clearly for what you need instead of expecting mind-reading
Make your relationship feel good, not just less bad
Work through disagreements without one person always giving in
Stay in hard conversations instead of shutting down or walking away
Reconnect after fights so they actually bring you closer
Our Training Goes Deep
What makes us different is that we're specifically trained in the heavy-duty couples therapy methods:
PACT (focuses on your nervous system and how you regulate each other)
EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy—helps you reconnect emotionally)
Gottman Method (research-based tools for healthy relationships)
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (how past relationships affect current ones)
We're also social workers, so we get that your relationship doesn't exist in a bubble. Work stress, family expectations, cultural background, parenting—all of it affects your relationship, and we pay attention to all of it.
How Long Does This Take?
We usually start with weekly sessions, then spread them out to every other week, then monthly, then just when you need us. Real talk: You're not likely to see big, lasting changes in less than 6-12 months of regular therapy. If you're dealing with an affair, addiction, or other heavy stuff, it might take longer.
But most couples notice improvements pretty early—fewer blowups, some moments of real connection—that give you hope to keep going.ring you closer instead of pushing you apart
Meet Our Team of Couples Therapists
Michelle Garraway, MSW, RSW started The Relationship Agency and leads our team. She's a Level 2 PACT clinician trained in EFT, Gottman Method, and other relationship-focused approaches. Michelle has been working in human services since 2009 and started this practice after her own journey of learning how to be better at relationships.
Our team includes therapists from different backgrounds—queer, Black, white, male, female, from different cultures. We work with interracial couples, LGBTQ+ couples, blended families, and second marriages—and we have therapists with lived experience in these identities.
All our therapists are Registered Social Workers (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers. You can see them all here.
Michelle (our founder) lived in Ajax with her family for 10 years and still has family here. We picked Ajax because the location is perfect—super convenient for people from Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, and Scarborough.
Our Ajax clients are a mix of long-time residents, people new to Canada, and first-generation Canadians. A lot of Ajax families are busy—commuting to Toronto for work, coming home to raise kids. Most people choose Ajax because it's convenient but also a great place for families, with lots of community and cultural events.
How Ajax Couples Find Us
Other therapists refer to us because they know we're specialists and they've seen our clients get results. We also make sure we show up in Google so people can find help fast when they need it.

All of Your Questions About Couples Therapy
-
Yes. At The Relationship Agency, we follow a strict policy on keeping couples and relationship work within the couple. If you've been researching other couples therapists you may have come across a process that starts with an intake with both partners, followed by two separate individual sessions with the couples therapist, and then a fourth session together. This is the Gottman Method protocol, and although our therapists are trained in The Gottman Method, through experience and advanced training we know that it is important to keep the couples work within the system. What do we mean by system? One goal of our Oshawa and Ajax couples therapy is for couples to be operating as a 2 person psychological system, your Ajax couples therapist is NOT in your relationship and is therefore not a part of that system.
-
It’s common for one partner to feel hesitant. Our therapists create a space where both people can show up honestly and move at a pace that feels manageable. Book a free 20 minute video consultation to help ease any worries.
-
It can add up, yeah. But think of it this way—would you spend $5,000 to save your marriage and build a life with real love in it? Most people would say that's worth it.
Plus, research shows that couples who get help early actually spend less time in therapy overall and save themselves years of misery.
-
If you're thinking about divorce, your therapist can help you figure out if that's really the right move. And if you do decide to separate, we can help you do it in a way that feels respectful and healthy—so you can come out of it feeling good about how you handled things.
We can also help you figure out how to co-parent, divide things fairly, and move forward in a good way.
-
Most couples wait way too long to get help. If you're thinking about therapy, now is the time. The earlier you deal with problems, the easier they are to fix—and the less time you'll spend in therapy.
-
